Bagan by Bike
Our guided mountain bike tour of Bagan begins outside the Bagan monument zone, along canals and through rural villages rarely visited by travelers. Traveling with Trek and Cannondale bikes on paths normally used only by local ox carts, most of the people we encounter will be surprised to see us. We take our own pace and stop here and there to chat with friendly locals we meet along the way.
Magnificent Views of Bagan’s Architectural Giants
After a break cold drinks, fresh coffee/tea, fruit and local snacks, we get back on our mountain bikes and continue our tour within the monument zone, surrounded by Bagan’s most iconic architectural giants. This tour can include magnificent views of the largest and most significant monuments in Bagan, including Shwesandaw Pagoda, Ananda Pagoda, That Byin Nyu Temple, and perhaps even Htilominlo Temple near Nyaung-U. We don’t use a fixed tour route, allowing ourselves the freedom to ride where we want, based on your interests. In Old Bagan we’ll take a break outside Dhammayangyi Temple to enjoy a fresh coconut or sugar cane juice.
The riding distance and pace is up to you. We can have a fast-paced, challenging ride that gets the heart pumping or take out time to stop for photos and engage with locals in the rural villages. Keep in mind that the terrain for mountain bike tours in Bagan is quite sandy, so please wear the helmets provided for all riders. The climate of Bagan is also quite hot and dry, so remember to drink water regularly throughout the tour. In case of emergencies, there is a 24-hour clinic with English-speaking doctor located in New Bagan.
