A Culinary Journey
We begin with a walking tour of our host village to learn about traditional agricultural practices and crops, and how the local climate and soils influence Myanmar hospitality and diet. Learn how many local plants can be foraged for use in Burmese cooking. Some are even used as medicinal plants in traditional Myanmar medicine. Depending on the season, we may try edible flowers or fruits picked directly from a homestead garden.
Bagan Cooking Class
Have you ever tasted fresh banana or papaya picked directly from the tree? Made your own curry paste? Drank the juice of a fresh coconut? After an introduction to traditional Burmese ingredients, cooking appliances, and techniques, our Bagan cooking class begin to heat up as we prepare a market-fresh, shared tapas-style vegetarian meal of local dishes and modern twists adapted for the Western palate. Includes water, fresh coffee/tea, and dessert.
