Learn about traditional Burmese dining in this local culinary adventure! Using fresh local ingredients, many from organic farms within the Bagan monument zone, you will prepare a 3-course meal together with our village cooking team in our Bagan cooking class.

A Culinary Journey

Get to the heart of Myanmar – through its food! Take a trip into the Burmese countryside and show off your cooking skills with this hands-on culinary adventure. You’ll get to experience local village life and, best of all, enjoy your culinary creations.

We begin with a walking tour of our host village to learn about traditional agricultural practices and crops, and how the local climate and soils influence Myanmar cuisine and diet. Learn how many local plants can forage for use in Burmese cooking. Some are even used as medicinal plants in traditional Myanmar medicine. Depending on the season, we may try edible flowers or fruits picked directly from a homestead garden.

Bagan Cooking Class

Have you ever tasted fresh banana or papaya picked directly from the tree? Made your own curry paste? Drank the juice of a fresh coconut? After an introduction to traditional Burmese ingredients, cooking appliances, and techniques, our Bagan cooking class begin to heat up as we prepare a market-fresh, shared tapas-style vegetarian meal of local dishes and modern twists adapted for the Western palate. Includes water, fresh coffee/tea, and dessert.
